A couple of days ago, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi tweeted against Azaan and complained about “imposed religiosity”. 

Post her comments, a number of netizens lashed out at her, one of them being Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi. He said made a personal attack on the Suchitra Krishanmoorthi and said: "These type of women love to dance with skimpy clothes... They drink (the) whole night and have made Indian culture a laughing stock... They should shut their mouth and stop dividing people,”

Responding to trolls and people taking potshots at her, Suchitra said that people like Abu Azmi needs to get well. “Some people have a problem with Azaan, while some have a problem with loud bhajans. We should find a solution to it. I am not asking to stop it, but the sound needs to be dealt with,” said Shekhar Kapur’s ex-wife while talking to a section of media.

Amongst all her criticisers, also was All India Council of the Union of Muslims (AIMIM) MLA Waaris Pathan took pot-shots, calling her a "cheap singer" who tweeted for "publicity."  "Such type of cheap singers do this for publicity... She was partying till late in the night... Where was she when Aqlaq was lynched? Where was she when Junaid was thrown on a platform? If she gets so troubled by the sound of azaan, why doesn't she go and stay in Nepal?" questioned Waaris Pathan.

You may recall, a few months ago, Sonu Nigam had tweeted against Azaan. The celebrated had said that he is not a Muslim, but is forced to wake up by the Azaan and termed the scenario “forced religiousness.” What followed is a huge controversy leading the singer to shave his head off.
