Om, an ardent fan of Shahrukh Khan, makes it a point to visit Mumbai one day before his idol’s birthday, just to wish him on that day. But this time, he went home with a heavy heart. The 30-year-old had sketched Shahrukh Khan in pencil and framed his artwork as a birthday souvenir for the 49-year-old.
But since the crowd outside Mannat, SRKs iconic sea facing bungalow at Bandstands hairpin bend, rose in numbers, the police resorted to lathi charge to ensure they were under control , without creating nuisance for passers by or the residents of the neighbouring buildings. While they did everything in their line of duty, they shattered Oms dream of gifting the sketch he made over four nights for SRK.
“I sat up four nights to sketch Shahrukhji and look what these policewalas did to my sketch. I came all the way from Latur. I have been standing here since 12 in the noon. They broke the glass frame in which I kept the picture. Now, if I try to give it to him in the middle of this maddening crowd, it will get spoilt because the black and white will get smudged,” he sighs, adding, I wanted to shake hands with him, but I have lost that opportunity.
