SP Balasubrahmanyam No More: Hospital Issues Official Statement; Confirms Singer Suffered A Cardio-Respiratory Attack

Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam is no more. He breathed his last this morning at MGM Healthcare hospital in Chennai. The Maine Pyar Kiya singer was admitted to the hospital on August 5 after he tested positive for Coronavirus. Soon his health deteriorated and he was put on life support. Though his health had shown signs of improvement as updated by his son, over the past few days, his health deteriorated. Today morning, he is said to have suffered a cardio-respiratory attack and breathed his last. The hospital issued a statement expressing sorrow.

In the statement, the hospital mentioned that the singer was admitted to the hospital on August 5 and his health went bad on August 14. However, he tested negative for COVID-19 on September 4. The statement further read, "In a further setback this morning, despite maximal life support measures and the best efforts of the clinical team, his condition deteriorated further and he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. With profound grief, we regret to inform that he has passed away on September 25th at 13.04 hours."

As the news of his demise made it to the headlines, many stars including Akshay Kumar, AR Rahman, Riteish Deshmukh, and more expressed grief through social media. Salman Khan, for whom, SP Balasubrahmanyam sang many hit songs in the 90s, also mourned his death. He wrote, "Heartbroken to hear about #SPBalasubrahmanyam sir... you will forever live on in your undisputed legacy of music! condolence to the family #RIP."  May his soul rest in peace.
