Filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s film, Sooryavanshi starring Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar was supposed to release in March 2020. However, after the wave of COVID-19 hit the world and brought everything to a standstill, the film couldn’t get a release. It is going to be a year now that Rohit held back the film as he was pretty headstrong to release the film in the theatres only. Now, that the government has given the permission of 100% occupancy in the cinema halls, the makers have now zeroed down to a release date. Going by the latest reports, the film is now said to be releasing on April 2, 2021, in the theatres but there’s more to this information.

As per the Pinkvilla report, a source close to Rohit Shetty was quoted saying, “They have held back on the films’ release for almost a year and were always committed to bring it in the cinema halls. However, it’s an expensive film and no one wants to release it in a manner that results in a loss of income. It’s time for the multiplexes as well to understand the plight of team Sooryavanshi. Since multiplexes are not agreeing to the terms put forth by Rohit Shetty, and Reliance, team Sooryavanshi has finally taken a decision to release the film in the cinema halls on April 2. However, the catch here is, he would bring the film only in the single screens and non-national multiplex chains, and bypass the big five national chains of PVR, INOX, Cinepolis and Carnival.”

The source also said that if the multiplexes agree on giving better terms within the next week, the film will arrive on the big screen all across India, otherwise, it would be just a single screen and non-national chain release.

Well, as the source has asserted that the film will hit the big screens on April 2, now, it is to be seen if the national multiplex chains agree on the terms put forth by Rohit and co, resulting in a pan-Indian release or would it be just a single screen release. ALSO READ: Reliance Trying For Simultaneous Theatre-OTT Release For Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi - EXCLUSIVE
