Filmmaker Rohit Shetty directed film Sooryavanshi was scheduled for a theatrical release in April 2021. The film starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in key roles has been waiting to release for a year now. After a much delay, the makers of Sooryvanshi locked April 30 as the release date of the film. However, amidst the rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, the release is likely to be postponed. The reports stated that considering the fact that the state comprises a major market for Hindi movies, the film release might be delayed and it will not release on April 30.
According to a report in the Times of India, a source revealed that with the suspension of night shows due to the night curfew in cities like Mumbai etc, there is a huge risk for a big-budget film to release in theatres. The source said, “With the suspension of night shows due to night curfews in cities like Mumbai and an atmosphere of uncertainty, it’s a huge risk for a big budget film to release in theatres at this point. Given people’s safety concerns, the film is unlikely to release on April 30.”
The source in the report further mentioned that the makers are thinking of options for the movie release. As per the report, the source said, “According to industry insiders, the makers are contemplating on a couple of options. The film can either opt for a direct OTT release, simultaneous theatrical & OTT release or OTT release in 14 days after theatrical release.” The report also mentioned that director Rohit Shetty is not in favour of the film getting an OTT release.
Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi is a sequel to Rohit Shetty’s Singham, Singham 2 and Simmba. Apart from Akshay and Katrina, the movie stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh in a cameo appearance. The film will be a part of Rohit Shetty’s cop universe.
