The Zoya Factor starring Sonam Kapoor, Dulquer Salmaan and Angad Bedi released on September 20, 2020, which tanked at the box-office. However, the director of the film, Abhishek Sharma said the reason behind the film going flop was Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor's Chhichhore along with Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha's Dream Girl. While talking to NavbharatTimes, Abhishek Sharma revealed that The Zoya Factor failed to impress the audience because Chhichhore, which released on September 6 and Dream Girl, which released on September 13 captivated the audience for weeks.

Sharma was quoted saying, "Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salmaan starrer film The Zoya Factor could not do well at the box-office because of 2 very good movies already in the theatres with our film. Sushant Singh Rajput's film Chhichhore and Ayushmann Khurrana Dream Girl had already released a week earlier and were doing extremely well. In such a situation, our film was not a choice for the viewers and they did not want to spend money to watch The Zoya Factor.” Sharma also said that according to him, Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore was the best film in 2019.

Sharma further added saying, "If we had only one film before ours, then the audience would have probably seen our film The Zoya Factor. But they had already watched two superb films and hence, did not turn up for the third one. The Zoya Factor did not work from day one, and when the film does not do well on the first day, then the word-of-mouth factor ends just there.”
