On Sunday social media platforms were flooded with messages and wishes on the occasion of Daughter’s day, but fashionista Sonam Kapoor shared a disappointing state of daughters in India. Sharing a screenshot of a certain Instagram handle which spoke about how Indian parents still continue to see a girl child as a paraya dhan who only belongs to her in-laws after a certain age. They shared analytics of various topics prevalent in India, these topic include literacy rates, gender discrimination, early pregnancy rates, prostitution and human trafficking.
Sharing it on her INSTA stories, she wrote, “#SADSTATE #DAUGHTEROFINDIA”. Percentages of all these saddening state of women in Indian were based on the survey of UNICEF, Save The Girl Child, National Commission for Women. The INSTA post shared by Sonam carried the caption, “It will be a “Happy” Daughters Day when Indian parents stop viewing their daughters as “paraya dhann”- a child that is a burden, and who belongs not to them but to her in-laws.”
