The debate over nepotism in Bollywood reignited on social media after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Bollywood biggies and star kids faced the wrath of Netizens, and in the face of such hatred and trolling online, Sonakshi Sinha was among those Bollywood stars who quit Twitter. Now, in an interview, she talked about the same, and aired her views on the merciless trolling of star kids. She also took a sly dig at Kangana Ranaut, pointing out that her sister manages her work.
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, while Sonakshi did not take any name directly, she said that she finds it amusing that the word nepotism has been introduced and sensationalized by a person whose sister is managing their work. She added, “Having said that, my father (Shatrughan Sinha) has never picked up the phone and called any producer to say, ‘Take my daughter in your film’." She further mentioned how nobody likes to hear abuses about themselves, especially not for being actors and being born to a certain set of parents.
About the insider-outsider debate, Sonakshi said, “Has anybody really counted — today there are more outsiders than so called insiders in the industry, who have made it very big and have lots of work, more than people who’re grown up in any film family. Why nobody raises that point? So, there’s a lot of misdirected anger about a lot of things, a herd mentality and people are being ‘bhadkaoed’. One person said something, and the whole world starts attacking star kids without putting any sense into it.”
Sonakshi shared her opinion that while belonging from a film family can help get someone their first audition, it can’t help them make their careers. That can only be done by their audience, and everyone in the industry was there because the audience accepted them to some extent, irrespective of whether it’s an insider or an outsider.
