Many Bollywood celebrities enjoy a massive fan following on social media, who constantly pour lots of love on them, at almost all times. In recent times, having a huge fan base on social media, and followers is something big that many people look forward to. It was recently reported by Times Now, that two Bollywood actresses, namely Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are likely to be questioned by the Mumbai police regarding the fake followers on their respective social media accounts.  Now, in connection with the racket busted regarding followers on social media recently, singer Sona Mohapatra reacts to news of two Bollywood actresses having fake followers and stated the obvious.

On Twitter, Sona Mohapatra shared a picture from a newspaper that reported that two Bollywood actresses are on the list of celebrities who have allegedly used services of websites to gain fake followers on social media platforms. The report in the Times of India stated that the two actresses were among 10 celebrities named by the UK-based Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) in a study that mentioned of them having fake followers on Instagram.

Taking to Twitter, Mohapatra tweeted, “shouldn’t need a UK institute & crime branch to know something so obvious. That most in the ‘I have Multi-Million followers’ club in #Bollywood have spent money to get entry. How come MM followers don’t translate to box-office? The ‘perception’ of success can’t be a success.” In her tweet, Mohapatra stated the obvious and mentioned that everyone having a million followers on social media in Bollywood have spent money to get that. She also went on to question why these million and the success does not translate to box-office.

Moving on, in the tweet, Sona Mohapatra also mentioned that many brand and marketing managers in the corporate world buy into this hype, and mentioned that social media endorsements based on fake followers are another joke and called it a con.  The singer then questioned how the views on YouTube, for a normal 'Desi' video grow to 200 million, while the web series GOT – Games of Thrones’ finale episode, broke records with 13.6 million views globally.
