TV actress Shafaq Naaz is known for her stint in shows like ‘Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai’, Mahabharat, The Mahakali- Anth hi Aarambh Hai, Chidiya Ghar, and more. Naaz is currently seen playing the role of Shruti in the daily soap ‘Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin. Of late, she is making headlines for making a shocking revelation as she exposed the beauty standards of the television industry. In a recent interview, Shafaq recalled that one she was rejected just because of her slight weight gain.
Speaking with ETimes TV, Shafaq said, “Once I was at an audition where they clearly told me that they couldn’t cast me because I had put on some weight. I was shocked to realise that even just a few kilos matter when it comes to getting work. I can’t imagine what other girls who are chubby or heavy go through on a daily basis. Some time ago, I was going through some health issues due to which I gained weight. That made me feel very conscious about my own body for the first time. This happened because we actors feel the pressure constantly.”
The actress went on to add that she failed to understand these ‘so-called beauty standards’ of the industry which require actresses to look a certain way. Shafaq also pointed out that such bad experiences can affect the mental health of actors. Further, the Mahabharat actress asserted that she feels that looks should not matter if an actor is a good performer. Shafaq Naaz concluded by saying that it’s high time that one should get over these unrealistic beauty standards set in showbiz.
For the unversed, Shafaq Naaz joined the romantic drama Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin last year in November and revealed that her interesting character was the reason why she gave her nod to this show.
