Actress Saiyami Kher, who made her Bollywood debut with Mirzya (2018) alongside Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, has been an active sports player. She often runs marathons and takes part in many outdoor activities. During a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, the actress made a shocking revelation. She revealed that she developed a cough early in January, which she still has, after running a marathon in Mumbai.

Talking to HT Cafe, the entertainment supplement of the media publication, Saiyami expressed her concern over the increasing air pollution in Delhi and Mumbai. Being an outdoor person, she went on to wonder what would happen in the future. She said, “I run marathons and have grown up playing sports outdoors. I ran the Mumbai marathon in January and I have had a constant cough ever since. When I went to the doctor, he said it’s [because of] pollution and told me to stop running outdoors. Is this our future? What happens to outdoor activities?”

The 31-year-old actress had recently taken to her social media handle to talk about the smog condition in Delhi during the India VS Australia match. Talking about the same, she told the publication, “I was watching the Test match between India and Australia — that happened in Delhi recently — on TV. There was so much smog [that] I could barely see the players. I have spoken to many cricketers who have also complained about how horrible the conditions are to play in.”

Saiyami went on to add how the pollution is worrisome for her as an actor, since they have to exert a lot during action sequences. Even if most of the shoots happen indoors and the exertion isn't constant, it is still not safe to breathe in the polluted air on a daily basis, explained the actress. She further added, “Climate change is real. Extreme winter, summer and monsoon are all happening in front of our eyes. If this doesn’t frighten you, what will?”
