Pahlaj Nihalani was so right when he told us at the death of Mahesh Anand that "Bollywood is a ruthless industry". Seems, we very quickly have a validation on Nihalani's viewpoint. Mahesh Anand was struck with cancer of pancreas, had no money to get himself adequately treated- but hardly anyone bothered. Except maybe for his FB friend Alex Almeida, who we hear parted with a little of his hard-earned money to ensure that Mahesh gets some relief. And how did Alex know? Mahesh wrote about his condition on Facebook.
Wish Mahesh had got more work. At one point of time, he was doing quite well for himself- working with top heroes like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda amongst many others. Something ruined his well-being, much before cancer struck. Work completely stopped coming to him since 2000. Mahesh's brother-in-law Kunal Dasgupta had spoken to us, saying, "Yes, Mahesh was in a depression."
For those who've come in late, Mahesh (57) was found dead in his Versova flat few days ago. He was eventually cremated by his Russian wife, Laana, who came in alone to claim his body from Coroner's Court at Cooper Hospital (Irla). Laana was Mahesh's 5th wife- preceded by Barkha Roy, Erika D'souza, Madhu Malhotra and Usha Bachani. Barkha had refused to talk about Mahesh when he passed away, while Usha had spoken with dignity and respect.
