A petition has been filed in Jammu and Kashmir High court against the release of his film, and now, the filmmaker has released his statement. With this, the question that arises is whether the film will hit the theatres or not.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film Shikara is based on the 1989 and early 1990 exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the wake of violent Islamist insurgency. As the film Shikara is based on the untold story of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley, days before the release, it got mired in controversy. A petition has been filed in Jammu and Kashmir High Court against Shikara with people demanding to stall the release. Vidhu Vinod Chopra now took to social media to share his statement.

In his tweet, the director of Shikara has explained how he has learned from media sources that a petition has been filed to stall the release of the film and that he will take necessary steps to get his film to make it to the theatres. Vidhu Vinod Chopra also shared that his team has no other information on the matter, but stated that counsel Harish Salve will take appropriate steps as may be required. He tweeted, “We have just learnt from media sources that a petition has been filed in the Hon. J&K HC against the release of #Shikara . We have no other information about the matter. As per reports in NewsNation.com, the petitioners Iftikhar Misgar, Majid Hyderi, and Irfan Hafiz Lone have claimed that the Vidhu Vinod Chopra film portrays untrue facts about the valley and the incidents faced by the Kashmiri Pandits.


Meanwhile, The film Shikara: The Untold Story Of Kashmiri Pandits features Aadil Khan and Sadia in the lead roles. The film marks Vidhu Vinod Chopra's comeback as a Bollywood director since his 2007 release Eklavya.


With the petition filed, now, the question remains whether the film will hit theatres on February 7, 2020 or not.
