Recently, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and actor Manoj Bajpayee held a live chat on Instagram, where they paid tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput and his work in Bollywood. Manoj Bajpayee had worked with Sushant in Sonchiriya, while Shekhar Kapur had rehearsed with him for a few months for the film Paani, before the project was shelved. It was during that conversation, where Shekhar Kapur revealed yet another shocking incident back in 2008 when he found out about the tragic death of The Dark Knight star Heath Ledger.
Heath Ledger was reported to have died of an accidental drug overdose. Shekhar Kapur, during the live chat, revealed that he had spoken to Heath just hours before his death, and was in fact supposed to wake him up the morning he was found dead. He said, “I worked with this fantastic actor called Heath Ledger and I did one of his first films. I was in New York and we were talking about a film we were going to do - The Nine O'Clock War - and he was going to do the lead role in it. We were going to meet.”
Shekhar revealed that Heath called him and rescheduled their meeting. “He called me and he said, ‘Shekhar, mind if we don’t meet this evening? I am a little jet-lagged. Let’s meet tomorrow.’ I said okay. He said, ‘Call me at 9.30, just wake me up.’”
Shekhar Kapur further shared that at 9:30 in the morning, he felt like he shouldn’t really wake up Heath Ledger since he is jet-lagged. “Around 11.30, the friend I was staying with said, ‘Shekhar, sit down, I have something to tell you. Heath Ledger is dead.’ I said, ‘Hang on, I just spoke to him.’ And he was gone,” said Shekhar.
