Shefali Shah seems to be in a very exciting place in her career at the moment. She confesses that after Delhi Crime, things have changed for the better for her. Recently, she made her directorial and writing debut with two short films, Someday and Happy Birthday Mummyji, both set in the lockdown period. And now she has multiple projects in hand as well.
First up, Shefali has the second season of the International Emmy-winning drama, Delhi Crime. Ask her for the update on its release and she shares, “We have shot for the second season and have just left a couple of days of patch work. Everything got delayed due to the pandemic and the lockdown, so we are going to do the patchwork now. I don’t know anything about the release date, but I am hoping it is before the end of the year.”
Next up, she has the Alia Bhatt and Vijay Varma-starrer Darlings, which is produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment along with Alia, who is making her debut in production. “Darlings is a dark comedy on a very important topic but it is treated in a very humorous way. It is very funny and wicked as hell. I have never played a character or done a genre like this. People have this image of me as being very intimidating and serious and that I only do intense roles, but Darlings will break that as it is a comedy. I am so excited for it also because we have such a fantastic team led by Jasmeet, our director. Anil Mehta sir is our DOP, the script is kickass and we have Alia Bhatt, Vijay Varma and Roshan Matthew. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun I am having on that set,’ she gushes.
After the shoot of Darlings, Shefali will jump right onto the Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh-starrer Doctor G, which is currently being shot in Bhopal, with the two leads already having joined the shoot. “Doctor G is a very sweet, sensitive and funny film. It’s a lovely script and I am looking forward to joining that team and that ensemble cast since they have already started shooting. I am expected to wrap up Darlings by the first week of August and then directly jump onto Doctor G. But the way things are, everything is changing by the day,” she admits.
