Coronavirus has affected every sphere of life and cinema is no exception. Many film’s release dates have either been delayed or rescheduled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. From Akshay Kumar ‘Prithiviraj’ to Alia Bhatt’s RRR, Bollywood biggies are being postponed. Earlier, Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur ‘Jersey’ was slated to be released on 31st December, but owing to the theatres shutting down and 50 percent occupancy the makers called off the movie’s theatrical release, and now the film has got a new release date. The film will hit the theatres on 14th April.
Shahid took to his Twitter account and shared the good news with his fans, He wrote, “So so happy to announce that our beloved film #Jersey will be releasing worldwide in theatres on the 14th of April 2022. See you in the theatres.” Earlier reports were that the makers are in talks with an OTT platform for a digital release but after all the assumptions, Jersey will have a theatrical release on 14th April. Shahid’s last release was Kabir Singh in 2019, and after 2 years Kabir is back and how! Jersey is a sports drama and a remake of a successful and National award-winning Telugu film with the same title. The story revolves around a cricketer, Arjun Raichand played by Shahid, who returns to the field in his 30s to contemplate his lost passion that is cricket. The trailer promises a roller coaster ride of emotions as it depicts the rise and fall of an ambitious cricketer.
Both the Telugu and Hindi version is helmed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. Mrunal Thakur plays the role of Shahid’s wife, whereas Pankaj Kapoor, will also be seen playing a pivotal role in the film.
