Actor Shahid Kapoor played a larger-than-life character, Maharawal Ratan Singh in filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat also starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The actor impressed his fans with his valour, stance and royalty and if you were absolutely taken aback by his character, then get ready, he will once again don an extraordinary character onscreen. According to the latest reports, Shahid Kapoor will essay the role of a mythological character, Karna in Rang De Basanti director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mahabharata adaptation.
As per the reports in PeepingMoon, the filmmaker wants to showcase Mahabharata through Karna's perspective, the spiritual son of Surya and a loyal friend of Duryodhana. The report also mentioned that the theme of the film is unclear as it will be based on the grandeur side or will be a contemporary adaption. "Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has always wanted to make a film on Karna. It's a subject he has been toying with for a long time but couldn't give it a shape due to the budget and scale it requires. With Ronnie Screwvala coming on board as producer, and Shahid Kapoor leading the cast, Mehra is now all set to liven up his passion project," sources told the portal.
The report further mentioned that after finishing off the post-production work of Toofan, starring Farhan Akhtar and Mrunal Thakur, the filmmaker will apparently get into the preparation of this venture which is expected to roll towards the year-end. As we await confirmation from the director as well as from Shahid Kapoor, we are already psyched about this update.
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor will next be seen in Jersey which a South Indian movie remake, and it also stars Mrunal Thakur. Reportedly, he will also feature in an Amazon Prime show.
