After Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Kangana Ranaut has been quite vocal about demanding justice for the late actor. In doing so, she also slammed the film industry, and spoke up against Bollywood biggies. Kangana also made some sensational claims about drug use in Bollywood, and has been constantly hitting the headlines for some of her statements. Now, Shabana Azmi has slammed Kangana, saying that she makes outrageous statements to stay in the news. She also spoke about the controversy around the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, read on.
While speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Shabana Azmi said that all this talk about drug abuse, nepotism, casting couch in Bollywood is a systematic campaign to divert people's mind from other important issues such as “failing economy, China border tensions, spiraling Covid cases, and farmers’ agitation by putting the spotlight on the supposed ills of the film industry.” She further said how the controversy around the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, started first as a nepotism charge, and then Rhea Chakraborty was accused of murder and siphoning Rs 15 crore from Sushant’s account. “The AIIMS report clearly states it was not murder. So ‘Justice for Sushant’ has given way to ‘Weed out the Druggies’, the goal post keeps changing. Instead of focusing on mental health as a serious issue in our society, it’s sensationalism that’s at play,” she said.
Speaking about Kangana Ranaut and her remarks, Shabana Azmi said that Kangana has started believing in her own myth. “She says she taught feminism to the film industry, she taught it nationalism. I’m glad she spelled that out because nobody else had noticed! I think she fears the day when she will no longer be in the headlines and so has to keep making outrageous statements to stay in the news. Poor girl, why doesn’t she just do what she is best at, which is acting,” she said.
On the professional front, Shabana Azmi will next be seen in Kaali Khuhi, which also stars Riva Arora, Satyadeep Mishra and Sanjeeda Shaikh. It is scheduled to release on October 30 on Netflix.
