On Saturday, Shabana Azmi met with a car accident on the Mumbai-Pune highway. The unfortunate incident took place just a night after the actress celebrated her husband’s birthday in a theme party. She has been moved to Mumbai’s Kokilaben hospital. B-Townies like Farhan Akhtar with girlfriend Shibani Dandekar, Honey Irani with daughter Zoya Akhtar, Farhan’s ex-wife Adhuna Bhabani, Vipul Shah, Ashutosh and Sunita Gowariker, Farah Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Vicky Kaushal and Jeetendra among others were seen dropping by the hospital to meet the actress.
According to filmmaker Boney Kapoor, the veteran actress is under sedation but is coherent. Boney Kapoor told Mumbai Mirror, “According to doctors, there is nothing alarming. She’s sedated as there is some pain but everything is fine. Except for Javed saab, Baba (Azmi, the actress’s brother) and Tanvi (Azmi, sister-in-law) nobody is allowed into the ICU. Shabanaji is coherent, talking normally, recognising people. For now, she is under observation and the doctors are making sure there is no internal injury and that potential dangers are ruled out. Actor Satish Kaushik, who also visited the actress in the hospital also said, “Shabanaji’s condition is improving and her reports are normal. I met Javed saab too and everyone is relieved. God is kind.”
Reportedly, Shabana Azmi's driver named Amlesh Yogendra Kamat has been accused of rash driving and an FIR has been lodged against him. The vehicle crashed into a moving truck which led to great damage to the car as well. Now the driver of the truck reportedly named Rajesh Pandurang Shinde has filed a case against Shabana Azmi's driver for rash driving.
