On August 10, 2021, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali completed 25 years in the cinematic world. And guess what this day was celebrated with a piece of extravagant news. The filmmaker announced his much talked about project Heeramandi, to be premiered on OTT giant, Netflix on its completion. The show will showcase stories of courtesans and unknown cultural aspects of Heeramandi, Lahore. It is said to be set in the pre-independence India era.
Now as per reports in TellyChakkar.com, this ambitious project of SLB will be reuniting two magnificent stars of Bollywood. Madhuri Dixit and Rekha are speculated to reunite with Heeramandi and will be seen in pivotal roles. The two are reportedly sharing screen space in this project; they were also seen in Lajja released in 2001. This marks SLB’s second collaboration with Madhuri Dixit after the blockbuster, Devdas starring Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Well, isn’t that amazing?
SLB will take on Heermandi in full swing, after the release of Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi.
The creative maverick sharing his thoughts on Heeramandi said, “Heeramandi is an important milestone in my journey as a filmmaker. This is an epic, first of its kind series based on the courtesans of Lahore. It is an ambitious, grand and all-encompassing series; therefore I am nervous yet excited about making it. I am looking forward to my partnership with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to audiences all over the world.”
Also, Rowdy Rathore actress Sonakshi Sinha is rumoured to play the lead role in the movie.
