Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt had taken his first step into politics almost a decade ago. He forayed into his maiden political venture as a Samajwadi Party candidate for the Lucknow Parliamentary constituency back in 2009. He was also later appointed as the general secretary for the Samajwadi Party. However, his political venture came to an end barely a year after as he resigned from the post and later also quit the party. Now, nearly after a decade, Sanju Baba is set to re- enter politics, according to a minister from Maharashtra.
Sanjay Dutt is all set to join the Rashtriya Samaj Paksh (RSP) on September 25, according to party founder and Cabinet minister Mahadev Jankar, who disclosed this information on Sunday. The RSP is a BJP ally in Maharashtra. Mahadev Jankar , while addressing a party event, announced, "...We have started working in the film sector as well to expand our party. As part of which, actor Sanjay Dutt is also joining the Rashtriya Samaj Paksh on September 25."He also later played a video of Sanjay Dutt greeting the RSP. The party mainly represents ‘Dhangar’ also known as the shepherd community. Before the Lok Sabha elections 2019 took place, rumours were rife that Sanju Baba might contest this time, however he had denied all the reports.
Sanjay Dutt had a political background as his late father Sunil Dutt had represented Mumbai northwest constituency as a Congress leader for five terms. Sanjay Dutt’s sister Priya Dutt had also been an MP of the Congress from Mumbai.
