Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was accused of sexual harassment by Bengali actress Payal Ghosh who said that he forced himself on her. Now, Rajshri Deshpande who has worked with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on a few projects penned an open letter to Payal Ghosh over her #MeToo allegations. The Sacred Games actor took to Twitter and wrote, “#Thread - Let the truth prevail, Dear @iampayalghosh, I am Rajshri Deshpande. I am not writing this because I worked with @anuragkashyap72 in 2 projects. But I am writing this so that I can listen to your voice.”

In her open letter titled ‘Let the Truth prevail’, shared as a thread on her verified Twitter handle, Rajshri Deshpande, expressed her fear that ‘one false narrative’ might lead to damaging many other voices who have suffered a lot. She explained how she has been working in the rural areas of India, for the past 8 years, where she worked with women who survived trafficking, abuse, violence, and suppression.

As Deshpande explained the importance of the Me Too movement in her open letter, she told Payal that she wants to listen to her not because the whole world is judging her video, but because she wants to know her journey.

Moving on, the Choked actress said she really wants to know why Payal Ghosh did not hesitate to use other women’s names to support her claim and asked, “Don’t you think so it was derogatory and defamatory?” She then went on to tell Payal that she wants to know how she coped up with the experience for 6 years and got the strength to put it back and work as she knows how difficult it is to go through harassment. Later, Rajshri Deshpande told Payal that she hopes she will answer the questions, not immediately but maybe after a few years when she realises what had happened. She said, “I hope you will be able to reflect whether it was your truth, suffering, or race to be part of the current influential race.” Deshpande continued, “Yes I am using word influence because this world is not great Payal..” She explained how women have to stay strong and fight their own battles. She also told Ghosh in her open letter that one day we have to answer to ourselves and mentioned how at that time no money or fame can save that feeling.

In her open letter further, Rajshri Deshpande told Payal Ghosh how there are times when a person think he/she is protected, but explained to her how false walls will never protect anyone. As Rajshri spoke for women facing such an incident, she concluded her threaded tweets and wrote, “Payal, I love my Indian film industry. I know it has its flaws and it's up to us to clean those flaws, but we need to ensure we do that conscientiously. May God give us the strength to be truthful and strong.”

Meanwhile, after Payal Ghosh’s sexual misconduct allegations, Anurag Kashyap received support from ex-wives Aarti Bajaj, and Kalki Koechlin, while actors Taapsee Pannu, Radhika Apte, and others also made social media posts in his support.
