"Yeh toh hona hi tha," was the reaction I got when I informed my friend that Sooryavanshi has been postponed, soon after I saw Akshay Kumar's tweet announcing the same and the film's team following it up with the same statement. So, all said and done, the much-awaited Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar-Ajay Devgn-Ranveer Singh-Katrina Kaif is not hitting theatres on its scheduled date, March 24.
I called up Sooryavanshi director Rohit Shetty to know his point of view. This is what he had to say, "We took the final decision of postponing Sooryavanshi, today. We were talking since the past few days though and waiting for the right day to announce it. It is in the best interests of everybody."
Is he disappointed that the film has been pushed, we asked? "We are not disappointed. Film toh aa hi jayegi. Safety comes first. The way theatres are getting shut, it only makes for a sensible decision to delay it."
Shetty then called for a joint effort to fight coronavirus and hailed the closure of schools and cinema-halls, which has happened in some parts of India. "We all need to stand together. We need to take a lot of precautions and not live in a denial mode. The coronavirus problem has spread far and wide. I would like to praise the decision taken by the governments in certain places to shut down the theatres and schools."
Any idea when will Sooryavanshi release now? "Woh toh koi nahin bol sakta for now. Let's see how it goes. I hope it settles down soon," Shetty concluded.
