According to a report in Times of India, Showik Chakraborty’s bail was rejected by the Bombay HC citing that he is allegedly in ‘direct contact with drug dealers’ and had actual transactions with them. Bombay High Court said, "At this stage the NCB has sufficient material to show he is a part (of) drug dealers engaged in illicit traffic.” Justice Sarang Kotwal added, "He appears to be an important link in the chain of drug dealers," as he rejected Showik’s bail plea. Comparing the same with Showik’s sister Rhea, who was released on bail yesterday, the HC said that there were no such allegations against her.
The report also stated how the Bombay HC found transactions which reflected in Showik’s account for the purchase of weed. As per the report, the HC said that Showik was facilitating procurement of drugs from one party for supplying them to SSR and was involved in the illicit trafficking of illegal trade of drugs. Reportedly, Showik is allegedly connected to co-accused Anuj Keshwani through Abdel Parihar, who was also not granted bail. The reason cited by the HC was considering the fact that Showik is a part of the large network and it is not possible to observe whether he will commit such offences in future or not, says the report.
