Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise had left his friends, family and fans devastated. Fans are still recovering from the shock, as they often demand justice for the late actor. While it started chatter around mental health and the importance of awareness, it also brought the Hindi film industry under the scanner for indulging in alcohol and drugs. Amidst it all, actress Rhea Chakraborty, who was in a relationship with him, was put on a media trail when she was arrested and had to spend a month in jail.

In a recent interaction with Chetan Bhagat on his show Deeptalk, she opened up about the struggles she faced in jail and how she survived the phase because of her fellow inmates. For those who don’t remember, Rhea was initially kept in a solitary cell for 14 days due to COVID-19 rules. She recalled that she was extremely hungry on day one and ate whatever she was given. As per the report by Bollywood Life, they had given her roti and capsicum, which was just cooked in water. ALSO READ: Sushant Singh Rajput Was Claustrophobic? Expressing her gratefulness, she revealed how it was then that she realised how many did not even have backing from their family. Some of her inmates’ families did not have Rs 5,000 or 10,000 to bail them out. She felt grateful to know that she had the support of her family and friends. She found strength in the inspiring stories of her fellow inmates and decided that she would not sulk or get depressed as she had done nothing wrong. The 31-year-old actress went on to open up about the toilet facilities in jail and revealed how they were the hardest part of survival. The entertainment portal quoted the actress saying, “Mental trauma is so much harder that the physical trauma starts paling in front of it. You think ‘Ganda bathroom toh manage kar lungi’.”

Chakraborty recalled how the time system in jail resembled the ones set by the Britishers in terms of food and bedtime. She told the author, “You get breakfast at 6 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m., and dinner at 2 p.m. because it goes with the British way of things. They open the gates at 6 a.m. and lock you in at 5 p.m. Until then, you can take a shower, go to the library, etc. Most people save their dinner and have it at 7-8 p.m. However, I changed my whole cycle. Yeh khana toh waise bhi khaya nahin jaayega. Garam hoga toh fir bhi khaya jaayega. Thanda toh bilkul nahin khaya jaayega. Hence, I started waking up at 4 a.m. and finishing my dinner at 2 p.m.”

For the unversed, after the late actor was found hanging in his apartment, in June 2020, Rhea came under the scanner. She was criticised, ridiculed and blamed for SSR’s death. Rhea along with six others, including her brother, were accused of abetting his suicide. SSR’s case is being probed by CBI but no closure report has been filed yet.
