The trailer of
Raveena Tandon's Maatr was released a while ago and it brings out the message
of women empowerment in a powerful way. The trailer is trending high on social
media platforms. But did you know that the makers had to send the trailer
thrice to the Censor Board before they finally allowed it to be launched?
"The trailer
of Maatr was sent to us thrice. The first time we rejected it. Second time when
they made some changes and brought it we passed it without any cuts with an A
certificate. Then they submitted a third time with several changes and we gave
it a U/A certificate," said Pahlaj Nihalani, who is the chairperson of the
Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC).
Although the cuts
hadn't been asked for, the filmmakers weren't content with an A certificate and
thus decided to chop off scenes from the trailer. Wonder what those scenes
were?
Elaborating on
the scenes that had to be chopped off, producer Anjum Rizvi had told a leading
daily, “There are certain shots of women being slapped along with other scenes
of violence that had to be let go of. I want to say that we are talking about
women empowerment and violence against women and to what extent a woman can go
to safeguard her modesty. Unless you show such scenes, how do you convey to the
audience what the film is all about? Without these scenes, the film looks flat.
CBFC guidelines state that violence and blood cannot be shown in trailers
seeking a U or U/A rating. If insisted upon it will get an A certificate. We
wanted to release the trailer, so we had to cut some shots, redo it and
finally, we got an U/A.”
Raveena is making
a comeback with this film where she plays a mother who avenges her daughter's
rape. The film is set to hit theatres on April 21.
