The Covid pandemic disrupted the release schedule of the much-anticipated sports drama, '83 starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Ammy Virk, and Saqib Saleem among others. The film was supposed to be released last year in April, but the date was pushed owing to the theatres remaining shut.

Now, a BollywoodLife report has suggested that the film will finally hit screens by the end of this year, around Christmas. There, however, is no confirmation about the same. While the theatres across several leading markets have witnessed shut down for months, it is also being speculated that 83’ is likely to take an OTT route.

The report quoted a source saying, “The film is made for the big screen. When the film was being made, there was no sign of pandemic and no one could predict that there would be a time when theatres would be shut and movies would be ready but have no place to release. While some great content is being released on OTT, the scale at which ’83 is created, the way it is shot, all the emotion, excitement and adrenaline rush that the film aims to bring alive, will be lost.”

The source also added the makers have decided to wait it out and hope for the situation to get better, before putting a release date for the film.

Directed by Kabir Khan, the film will chronicle Team India's victory in the 1983 world cup. Cricket fans have been desperately waiting for the sports drama, ever since it was first announced.

The delay in the film’s release is likely to impact audience’s interest leading to the huge loss for the makers. Addressing that, the report said, “The people backing the film are seasoned talents in the industry and have taken a well thought out call.”

“The biggest win for the film ’83 is the story. It is a retelling of an iconic chapter from India’s cricket journey and when it does finally release in the theatres will not dampen the interest around it," the report added.

The film '83 got everyone excited as fans could not believe how effortlessly Ranveer slipped into the shoes of ace cricketer Kapil Dev. The 36-year-old actor left everyone awestruck with his first look left and, from the looks of it, he has managed to pick the legendary cricketer's mannerism very well.
