Fairness creams; to do or not to do? That is the dilemma
facing Bollywood stars today. The debate about colourism in Bollywood has been
an age-old one but it became headline fodder once again recently after Abhay
Deol slammed Bollywood stars who advertise fairness creams.
That camp comprises stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya
Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and John Abraham, who have all
peddled products which promise light skin, in the past.

But the scion of the Kapoor khandaan, Ranbir Kapoor has
no plans to cash in on his fair complexion.
SpotboyE.com has it that Ranbir was recently approached
by a brand which wanted to sign him as the face of their fairness cream. To woo
the star, they offered the whopping sum of Rs 9 crore (approximately) and all
for less than a day’s work.
But Ranbir declined the offer.
With this he has made his stand clear on the debate which
has seen many fingers being pointed at Bollywood stars for perpetuating
colourism.
Interestingly, Ranbir’s ex-girlfriend Sonam Kapoor, who
has herself endorsed such a product, had a brief online spat with Abhay after
he posted his scathing critique. She reminded him that his cousin Esha
Deol had also done a similar ad.
Ranbir has remained mum on the topic till now but like
they say, actions speak louder than words.
