Rakul Preet Singh entered the Hindi film industry in 2014 with Divya Khosla Kumar’s directorial debut, Yaariyan. However, it wasn’t until the 2019 release, De De Pyaar De, featuring her with Ajay Devgn and Tabu, that Rakul got the recognition she deserved in the industry. The film saw her as a modern woman, who falls in love with a man double her age. The film was a commercial success and brought in a lot of good work offers for the actress.
After De De Pyaar De, Rakul was seen opposite her Aiyyary co-star Sidharth Malhotra in Milap Milan Zaveri’s Marjaavaan, to close the year. In 2020, she had her long-stuck film, Shimla Mirchi, also featuring Rajkummar Rao and Hema Malini, finally release but that went unnoticed. She had an amazing line up of work to follow before Covid proved to be a spoilsport for the actress. Rakul began 2021 with a music video, Dil Hai Deewana opposite Arjun Kapoor, which they followed with their first film together, the Kaashive Nair directorial, Sardar ka Grandson on Netflix. Recently, she was seen in her second music video, Naa Dooja Koi, with Thappad fame Pavail Gulati.
Now, Rakul seems to have a busy few years ahead of her as she has some amazing films in her line up. She will be pairing up with John Abraham in Attack, that will also feature Jacqueline Fernandez. She also has Doctor G with Ayushmann Khurrana that she still has to start the shoot for. For now, she has a release in April next year with Ajay again, Mayday, that will also feature Amitabh Bachchan and will see Rakul in the role of a pilot. She will follow it up with another reunion with Ajay and her Aiyyary and Marjaavaan co-star Sidharth in Indra Kumar’s Thank God.
A few months ago, Rakul also announced being a part of a Ronnie Screwvala’s film that will see her in the part of a condom tester. This film will also mark Rakul’s first film that she will be headlining on her own. And a cherry on this delicious cake came recently, as it was rumoured that Rakul will be teaming up with Akshay Kumar for the first time in Bell Bottom director, Ranjit Tiwari’s next. The film is reportedly a remake of the Tamil movie Ratsasan, and is titled Mission Cinderella. There has been no official announcement yet, but if true, it will mark a new milestone in Rakul’s career.
Speaking about this amazing phase of her career, Rakul shares, “I am extremely grateful for having all the films that I have right now. I am just hoping lockdown doesn't slow down the speed of these films. I would have already finished half of them if not for the lockdown. Nevertheless, I am very happy and grateful that I am getting this kind of love and acceptance from the audience. I believe this is just the beginning and I really hope I continue to get different roles and the opportunity to prove myself as an actor.”
