Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao has made a name for himself in the Hindi entertainment industry for over a decade now. Having made his debut with Dibakar Banerjee’s anthology film Love Sex Aur Dhoka in 2010, he went on to impress the audience with his versatile performances and comic timing. Currently basking in the blockbuster success of Stree 2, he recently opened up about performing a bold sequence in his debut film and how his late mother, Kamlesh Yadav, reacted to it.
Rao shared how he informed his parents about performing a “bu*t-naked scene” in LSD. Talking about their reaction, he revealed that his mother was “very sweet” about it and even encouraged him to do so as it was his job. During an interview with India Today, quoted by Pinkvilla, the 39-year-old actor said, “I informed my parents and my mother was very sweet. She said, ‘If it's a part of your job, you are an actor, if you think it's very very important, then yeah. Go for it’.”
Further in the interview, Rajkummar was asked if he had any non-negotiable factors in his mind during the initial stage of his career and if he had changed his mind about them over the years. He revealed that he had no qualms about going out of his comfort zone to play certain roles, if the character demanded it. The Bareilly Ki Barfi actor shared that the role has to be “convincing.” Recalling his bold scene in LSD, he stated that back then it wasn’t “cleared by the Censor Board” and it was “blurred” during the release of the film.
The Queen actor went on to add that he felt scared as it was his “big break,” however he couldn’t refuse the role over his comfort. He added that the reason behind him agreeing to play the role was because he acknowledged that such opportunity may never come again. Rajkummar went on to state that if a filmmaker has to convince him of a role or a scene, they have to make him believe that the film cannot be made without it.
