Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, who is gearing up for the release of his next project ‘Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh’, has sought additional security from Mumbai police ahead of the film’s release in India. Rajkumar requested tight security for himself as well as for his family after some protestors arrived and interrupted a recent event of the film in Mumbai. The director also received threats at the event and thus he has written a letter to Mumbai's Special CP Deven Bharti, seeking security.
News agency ANI shared a photocopy of Santoshi’s letter on their Twitter handle and an excerpt from the letter read, “My team (directors, producers & cast) for the movie Gandhi vs Godse, was in the middle of the press conference where it was interrupted by a group of people with vested interests.”
In the letter, he also revealed that he received several threats from some unknown people who asked him to stop the release and promotion of Gandhi Godse.
“I feel unsafe and I further submit that grave damage and injury could be caused to me and my family members if such persons are set free and if no steps are taken by your good self and further losses would be caused not only to us but the public at large,” Rajkumar added.
Several political groups including Congress party members have raised an objection to the film. A few days ago, some Congress leaders staged a protest against the film in Madhya Pradesh.
On a related note, Set in the era of the early post-independence period, Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh is based on Indian history where Mahatma Gandhi survives the assassination attempt by Nathuram Godse. While actor Chinmay Mandlekar will be seen essaying the role of Nathuram Godse, Deepak Antani will play Mahatma Gandhi in the film.
The upcoming film will hit the theatres on Republic Day, January 26 ahead of Mahatma Gandhi's 75th death anniversary.
