A CBFC official was summoned by the Chennai Court (where the case was being held) asked various questions about the film’s release – one of which was; Why do such films bearing subjects like these get clearance? Kalavani was given a ‘U’ certificate in 2010, which evidently was a bone of contention for the court.

Adds the source, “The CBFC member briefed the court about the Board’s proceedings and the judge has asked him to file an affidavit stating all aspects related to the issue including grading, incision and reaction of the producer among other things. The affidavit needs to be submitted next Monday.”
CBFC is in a predicament post the hearing since they have a tough job at hand and time and again, find themselves in a muddle over their decisions.
A source from the Board told SpotboyE.com, "It's always a Catch-22 situation for us. If we allow certain scenes, we are doomed. If we don't, we are damned."
