Pankaj Udhas, the acclaimed ghazal singer who recently succumbed to cancer, received an honorable state funeral in Mumbai on Tuesday. Accompanied by the band and troops, he was bid a farewell befitting a hero. His mortal remains were draped in the tricolour at his residence, 6A, Hill Side in Mumbai. An ambulance transported the mortal remains of Pankaj Udhas from Breach Candy hospital to his residence. Videos depict a solemn scene, with a portrait of Pankaj Udhas placed in the garden area of his house. Family members and close acquaintances gathered to bid their final farewell to the Padma Shri awardee. Before the funeral, notable industry colleagues such as Zakir Hussain and Shankar Mahadevan visited his residence to offer their final tributes. The funeral ceremony was scheduled to occur between 3 pm and 5 pm on Tuesday at the Hindu crematorium in the Worli area of Mumbai.




 


Pankaj Udhas gained fame for his mastery in singing ghazals. One of his most famous albums is "Aahat," released in 1980, which marked the beginning of his prolific career. He went on to release over 60 solo albums, including popular ones like "Mukarar" (1981), "Tarrannum" (1982), and "Mehfil" (1983). 

He received several awards for his contribution to music, including the prestigious Padma Shri in 2006, one of India's highest civilian honours.
