Last evening, the announcement of Sanjay Leela
Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati’s postponement sent shockwaves across the
industry.
The film starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor will not
hit theatres on December 1 and an official statement released by the
makers stated that “Viacom18 Motion Pictures, the studio behind ‘Padmavati’ has
voluntarily deferred the release date of the film.”
John Abraham In Parmanu- The Story Of Pokharan
Soon after, SpotboyE.com told you FIRST that trade is
abuzz with news that the period drama might release on February 14, 2018 (Wednesday, which means it could release on 15/16). In the same week, John
Abraham’s Parmanu and Rani Mukerji’s comeback venture Hichki is scheduled to
meet the audience.
The obvious question now is, what will happen to Parmanu
and Hichki?
Rani Mukerji In Hichki
SpotboyE.com got in touch with Prerna Arora of KriArj
Entertainment who is co-producing Parmanu about the POA and she says, “Whatever
has happened to Padmavati is very unfortunate, but now, I am in a fix. I had
moved Parmanu to February 23 because it was a cool date. I knew Hichki was
releasing but we were at ease because the two films belong to very different
genres and thus would have an audience of its own. Plus, we had sorted the
screens out amongst ourselves. We were on the same page.”
So does Team Parmanu plan to change its release date if Padmavati does hit theatres on Valentine’s Day weekend? “You have caught me too early. I don’t know, as of now I am not moving.”
You may recall that Parmanu was initially supposed to meet the audience on December 8. However, the film was shifted because of Padmavati. Little did you know that John was not keen that the movie date be altered, but it was Prerna who suggested the idea of not clashing with Padmavati. “I wish I had listened to John then,” she laughs.

Interestingly, Prerna is on very good terms with Viacom
18 as they had collaborated on Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which went on to cross
the Rs 100 crore mark.
Goes without saying, she had kept the studio in the loop about her decision regarding Parmanu and the recent developments have left her disillusioned.
Just like Parmanu, a number of films releasing around the same time might have to reconsider their decision.
“The industry is in a fix. Many films especially the ones hitting theatres in February and March will have to rethink. Rescheduling, which is bound to happen, will cause major inconvenience and losses to everyone in the queue. It will be a chain reaction.”

Asked to speak more about the possible consequences of the delay in Padmavati's release, Prerna replied, “This is the second time Padmavati is not releasing as
planned – the film was first coming out on November 17. It was then shifted
to December 1. Now, it’s delayed further. While it is
unfortunate, it’s very tough to work around it – and go back and forth
repeatedly. Lots of money is involved in not only just my film but other films
as well in December 2017 and the first quarter of 2018.”
For those who have come in late, last night, SpotboyE.com
also brought to you the three possibilities to why Padmavati could have been
postponed.
Let’s see how the makers of the films releasing around
the same time as Padmavati tackle the situation.
