Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to give his all while working on a film. The cinematography, the sets, the props, and the rich feel of every scene are something that, apart from Bhansali, no other filmmaker has yet achieved. As his iconic and most violent film, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, that stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, clocks nine years, the director opened up about a few anecdotes from the film.

During an interaction with ETimes, the director recalled that both Ranveer and Deepika had never played unabashed characters before. They did exactly what he wanted and brought to life the expression of never ending love. He shared, "They had never played such unabashed characters. Once in a while Deepika would get taken aback by her character's uninhibited behaviour. But she would convey exactly what I wanted. Both of them are marvelous actors. They made the expression of love so effortless and magical. They have conveyed the purest form of love." Talking about why the lovers never really consummate their love on-screen, Bhansali shared that it was important for him to show that the couple would only unite completely after their deaths. He said, "That's the irony, which took me away from the original Shakespearean play. For me, it was important to show that the lovers could only be united completely in death. I wanted to hold back the consummation of their love."

He opened up about how the failure of Saawariya and Guzaarish broke him and his team, which made them want to reach out to a wider audience. He shared, "I needed Ram-Leela to reach out to the the widest possible audience. Not that I made Ram-Leela to prove anything. I made the film I enjoyed making and I hoped audiences would share my pleasure."
