Sushant Singh Rajput's death on June 14 sparked the debate over mental illness. The actor reportedly suffered from depression and was under medication. His girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty has maintained that Sushant consulted several psychiatrists, however, his health just deteriorated. But, a lot of people could not accept the depression theory built around his death, including his former girlfriend Ankita Lokhande. While the investigation is on in Sushant Singh Rajput's death case, a lot is being discussed about mental illness. Now, India's noted psychiatrist Dr Anjali Chhabria has come out to demand an apology from certain media channels reporting on mental illness.
In a long note on Facebook, she has shared some harsh reality that one in every eight Indian today suffers through mental illness. She has then spoken about the media mayhem and demanded an apology saying, "The irresponsible reporting by some media outlets and thoughtless comments by clueless celebrities has caused much damage to the curative efforts which doctors and other mental health professionals struggle with every day." She also mentioned that the confidentiality that a doctor extends to his client should be maintained even after the death. In the end, she has written, "We demand that science should dictate the discourse and policy for public consumption."
This post of Anjali Chhabria has been supported by many doctors including Dr Harish Shetty and Dr Kesri Chavda who reportedly was consulted by Sushant Singh Rajput at one point in time. Read her post below:
