Bollywood actress and dancer Nora Fatehi has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry because of her exceptional dance skills. Months ago, she had taken social media by storm for sharing her views on feminism on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, The Ranveer Show. She opined that “men and women aren’t equal” and that the ideology behind feminism has “fucked up our society” in terms that it has messed up the traditional roles for both genders. She was subjected to a lot of scrutiny after snippets of her interview went viral on social media. Now she has clarified her stance during a recent interview.
Having appeared on Mashable India’s show, The Bombay Journey, the 32-year-old actress clarified her stance on feminism and stated that people misunderstood what she was trying to say. When the host pointed out that he had not understood her previous statements, she clarified that she was discussing Western society and radical feminism, which has dragged on to the extent of separating men and women and encouraging women to be “over independent” and not create families with men.
She added how the radical feminism of the current generation is affecting the younger generation, however, the dancer also appreciated the fact that a lot of people didn’t agree with her stance. She encouraged people to start having healthy and logical conversations on such topics without letting their emotions intervene. Talking about her family background, Nora shared that the followers need to understand where she comes from.
Quoted by Bollywood Shaadis, Fatehi said, “I come from a divorced family, both my parents divorced when I was 10 or 11. I've seen the negative effects of a single mother. So, I advocate for families, I advocate for kids to have their mom and dad together, I am saying it as a generalisation. As a celebrity, we have a responsibility to encourage positive aspects of society.”
Apologising for her previous remarks on feminism, the Madgaon Express actress shared that there are too many people in the West who encourage the ideology of ‘I can do everything by myself’. She said, “Right now in the West, we have too many people who encourage the ideology of I can do everything by myself, I can have kids by myself. Yes, you can but why are we encouraging that? Should we not encourage nuclear families? Should we not encourage a household of two people who can help bring up children? This was what we were discussing which was taken out of context, and if people were upset, I definitely apologise for making people upset and hurting them.”
On the work front, Nora Fatehi has been judging the various celebrity dance reality shows. She was last seen in Kunal Kemmu’s Madgaon Express alongside Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi, and Avinash Tiwary. She will be next seen in Crakk opposite Vidyut Jammwal. She also has an upcoming comedy film 100% alongside John Abraham and Riteish Deshmukh in her pipeline.
