Vipul Shah’s Aankhen (2002) may have a huge box-office hit, but that has not helped the film’s second instalment find any takers.
Though media reports have occasionally surfaced about the film’s casting, the fact is, all that noise is yet to catch the attention of financial investors.
Says a source, “The makers of Aankhen first announced its sequel without having a starcast on board. They did approach Akshay Kumar for a whopping amount Rs 50 crore plus, but he refused to do the film. Then followed names of actors like Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani, half of whom have either turned down the film or whose names were just thrown in for publicity. The project is not going anywhere as of now.”

Till now, only Amitabh Bachchan has expressed his readiness to be a part of the film. The original had starred -- apart from Big B -- Akshay Kumar, Sushmita Sen, Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal and Aditya Pancholi.

However, Aankhen producer Gaurang Doshi refuted all claims of the sequel finding it difficult to take off. Speaking to SpotboyE.com, he even said that the film will have a huge launch on July 5.
But with nothing happening till the time of going online today -- it’s already July 10 -- we are forced to believe that the buzz of the project hanging in the balance was not just a ‘baseless rumour’.
