Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja is going steady at the box-office, courtesy its positive word of mouth. Now, SpotboyE has it that Atul Kasbekar and Fox Star Studios (producers of the film) want the film to become tax-free, so that it can reach out to even those who can’t afford expensive movie tickets in multiplexes.
The decision will be taken by the government in a couple of days.
A 3-member committee was appointed 3 weeks ago to check a film’s credentials before it is declared tax-free. Neerja is the first film seen by the committee.
Actress Renuka Shahane, who represents the cultural arm in the committee, confirms that she has green-lit the film.
“Neerja is an inspiring tale which will change the way we see the girl child. And not everyone can afford fancy cinema tickets. If the cost is reduced, there’ll be more people willing to see the film,” she says.
Renuka, however, points out that all the members have to submit their reports individually. It is only after the report submission that a decision regarding Neerja will be taken.
