Nawazuddin Siddiqui Opens Up About His Bollywood Journey, From Doing Small Roles To Performing Versatile Roles; Says, ‘Begin From Zero, Unlearn What You Have Learnt’

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, without a doubt, is one of the most sought-after actors in Bollywood. He has never shied away from giving his audience exceptional characters that they will remember for years to come. However, his journey to the big screen wasn’t easy. While everybody knows about the actor’s struggles, what they don’t know is how acting became a huge part of his life.

Recently, Nawaz opened up about the challenges he faced when he started his career. Before getting his big break from Anurag Kashayap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur, he was seen portraying smaller roles in some of the major Bollywood movies like Peepli Live, Lunchbox, New York, Black Friday and Kahani. He graced the stage of the International Film Festival of India, which is being held in Goa, and spoke on the topic of Journey As An Actor. Talking about the smaller role that he was offered, the 48-year-old actor shared, "I was offered small roles which I accepted for survival then. I had no other alternative. But I never got disappointed. It is the difficult time that makes you strong. If you have to begin from zero, you have to first unlearn what you have learnt."


He shared that he was confident that Gangs of Wasseypur would be appreciated by the audience and that his struggle to become an actor would end. The Heropanti 2 actor revealed that he was hesitant to work on webseries on OTT platforms since he had no idea about them. However, it was Anurag who convinced him to give them a shot. Eventually, his first series, Sacred Games, was a huge hit amongst the fans.

For the unversed, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, after graduating from college, worked as a chemist in a petrochemical company. However, he wanted to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor, which got him associated with theatre. Eventually, he took admission at the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi to fulfill his dream. After playing iconic characters like prominent Urdu author Saadat Hasan Manto in Manto and Bal Thackeray in Thackeray, he shared that acting is his everything. He revealed, "Acting is my hobby and I don't get tired of it. Acting is my everything, its my life. Even one life is not enough to satiate my thirst for acting."
