Distributor of Chandra Barot's Don, Mavjibhai and elder brother of music director duo, Kalyanji-Anandji, breathed his last yesterday. Mavjibhai was down with age-related problems since some time. The end was however peaceful.
Mavjibhai was not interested much in music but always in the
business aspect of movies. Sajid Nadiadwala's maiden flick Zulm Ki Huqumat was
distributed by him for Bombay Circuit. The big break in his career came when he
distributed Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don which was a bumper hit. Don starred
Amitabh in a double role with Zeenat Aman, Iftikhar, Kamal Kapoor, Om Shivpuri
and Helen in important roles. Mavjibhai ran his business under the banner MV
Pictures.
Mavjibhai was hugely respected in Bollywood. Many aspiring
distributors went up to him for advice before getting into film business.
Mavjibhai did not take long to establish his identity even though he was the
brother of one of the most popular musician jodis of Bollywood,
Kalyanji-Anandji.
May his soul rest in peace.
