A few days back, it was reported that yesteryear actress Moushumi Chatterjee approached the High Court to meet her comatose daughter, as she has been denied access by her son-in-law. Now, a report in Mumbai Mirror reveals that the High Court has disposed of Moushumi and her husband Jayanta Mukherjee’s petition seeking guardianship and access to their comatose daughter.
A division bench of Justices BP Dharmadhikari and Sarang Kotwal state that this is something that could have reached a conclusive solution within the four walls of a house and shouldn’t have gone to court. It’s a no-win situation for both parties who are interested in the welfare of Payal, who has been in a state of coma since April 2007 and is taken care of by her husband, Dicky Sinha, ever since her discharge from hospital in April last year.

On November 22, the Mukherjees’ petition was first heard and posted for urgent relief. On Saturday, Sinha filed his affidavit and claimed that the Mukherjees were creating “a false and misleading impression” about him. He claims that his in-laws visited Payal every day and he even has CCTV recordings to substantiate his claims. He even went on to say that he was involved in taking care of his wife completely and also looked entirely into her timely treatment.
He refuted the claims made by Payal’s parents that he refused them access to her medical documents and in fact stated that he offered to hand them over to Mukherjees’ lawyers on November 26. He stated that two trained nurses are tending to Payal in 12-hour shifts along with two maids and a full-time domestic help. He also added that he is providing advanced physiotherapy to his wife, and she is responding positively to it. “It is vehemently denied that I have stopped making payments to the staff charged with the care of my wife. It is vehemently denied professionally-trained nurses are no longer in charge of the care of my wife. It is denied that I have at any time refused copies of my wife’s medical papers to the petitioners.”
