Mithun Chakraborty, one of India's most iconic actors, is set to be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his immense contributions to Indian cinema. Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics, and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced the news on X (formerly Twitter). He expressed that Mithun Da's extraordinary cinematic journey has been an inspiration for generations and that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury had chosen to recognize him for his iconic contributions to the film industry. The award will be presented to Chakraborty at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on October 8, 2024.
This recognition comes just months after Mithun Chakraborty was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, in April 2024. Upon receiving that award, Chakraborty expressed his overwhelming emotions, stating that he was speechless for a minute when informed by the Home Ministry about the honour. He shared that he never sought recognition for himself, making the accolade even more special.
