It is not often that stalwarts like Shyam Benegal, Sriram Raghavan, Mira Nair, Imtiaz Ali, Nagesh Kukunoor, Homi Adajania come together for a project. But Shor Se Shuruaat, an anthology which will premiere at the ongoing Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival does just that. The short films will be a launchpad for assistant directors, editors, cinematographers and other technicians. Noise, is the common theme binding the films together.

The film is the brainchild of Vinay Mishra, Pallavi Rohatgi and Preety Ali, the co-founders of the production house Humaramovie.

The trio is helping  new filmmakers by providing a distribution platform across theatres, satellite and digital platforms.

"About 4 years ago, Bosco Martis, of Bosco-Caesar fame, had approached Imtiaz Ali with regards to the ‘Wassup Andheri Film Festival,’ and that was the time we had started Humara movie. That’s when the idea of doing a short film competition struck me. I wondered if I could utilise the goodwill that I had created in the industry. The two people we then got on board were, of course, Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap. And the first year turned out to be a success," said Preeti, the wife of Imtiaz Ali.

The film will mark the debut of Pratik Kothari, who was mentored by Shyam Benegal, Rahul Chittela mentored by Mira Nair, Amira Bhargava who was guided by Zoya Akhtar, Nagesh Kukunoor's protege Supriya Sharma, Annie Zaidi who was mentored Sri Ram Raghavan, Arunima Sharma who was guided by Homi Adajania and Satish Raj, the long-time assistant of Imtiaz Ali.
