It has been almost a week since Deepika Padukone stood in solidarity with the JNU students after their educational campus was taken over by a violent mob attack. The actress’ decision to visit JNU brewed a storm across the internet. While many lauded her brave decision, there’s also a section of netizens that have been bashing Deepika. People belonging to the latter category have also boycotted her recently-released Chhapaak. Now, the film’s director Meghna Gulzar, in a conversation with PTI, opened up on Dippy’s controversial visit.

The filmmaker called it Deepika Padukone’s personal choice and urged fans to divert all the attention to their film Chhapaak and its important message, instead of fueling the controversy. She was quoted as saying, “We have to be able to separate between the personal and professional. What somebody does in their personal life and what they have done as a professional in a film needs to be looked at separately.” She added, “While they are trying to separate the lens of personal and professional if one can slightly divert the lens back to the reason why we made the film and what we are trying to talk about and bring to light... I think it is important,” she added. (ALSO READ - JNU Violence: Baba Ramdev Has A Suggestion For Deepika Padukone; Wants The Actress To Hire Him As ‘Advisor')

Some time ago, Baba Ramdev, too, shared his two cents on this matter. In his statement, he advised Deepika Padukone to study and research before taking such a step. He also proposed to the actress to hire him as her advisor. “I feel that Deepika Padukone should have persons like Swami Ramdev for the right piece of advice,” said Baba Ramdev.

Meanwhile, Chhapaak made it to the big screens on January 10, 2020.
