Mandira Bedi’s husband director Raj Kaushal passed away on June 30 due to a sudden cardiac arrest. As soon as the news broke, her colleagues penned condolence messages, while few also attended the funeral. The videos and pictures of Raj’s funeral that hit the internet set a new example, as his wife Mandira performed his last rites. Unlike followed in the Hindu tradition of a man in the family performing the last rites, Mandira was seen holding the bier of her husband which is usually held by men in India.
As soon as the pictures and videos of the same circulated on the internet, netizens were seen lauding her. With Mandira performing her husband’s last rites, broke the gender stereotypes in the most difficult times of her life. One of the netizens shared an article on the same, calling the actress as “EMPOWERED WOMAN OF INDIA.’ Another netizen wrote, “may god bless her. it’s appreciable that even in this moment of grief, she broke the gender stereotypes and smashed the patriarchy.”
