For the first time, Malaika Arora has spoken about her divorce with Arbaaz Khan. Malaika-Arbaaz, who were married for 18 years, called it off in 2017 and went on to lead two separate lives as they continued to co-parent their son, Arhaan Khan. Now, on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s radio show What Women Want, Malaika got candid and spoke about her legal separation.
Malaika first revealed that others used to tell her, “I think sab ki pehli yehi raai hai ki mat karna. Koi aapko nahi kahega ki, 'Haan, haan, please jayiye, kariye.' That's the first thing, ki aap soch samajh ke yeh decision lena. I went through the same thing," she said.
Further, the actress revealed what her family told her a night before she was signing for divorce. She said, “Even the night before I got divorced, I had my family sit with me and ask me yet again, 'Are you sure? Are you 100 per cent about your decision?' So I think that was something I heard all along and rightly so. These are the people who worry and care so they will definitely say that.”
The actress also revealed that they (Arbaaz-Malaika) weighed the pros and cons. She said, “It's never ever easy like no other major decision in your life and at the end of the day, someone has to be blamed. You always have to point fingers at someone. I think that's the general human nature to go about things. It's never easy, but the person that I am, for me happiness is the most important. And it's not just me is the happiness for everybody around. So even if it means that I have to make or take such a major decision in my life, of course, I didn't do it alone. There are two people involved. And I think we eventually did think about a lot of things, we weighed every single pros and cons and then we decided that I think it's better off that we go our separate ways because I think we'll just be better people.”
Once Arbaaz Khan had also opened up about his divorce with Malaika and told Zoom TV that he tried for 21 years but couldn’t succeed. He said, “People would love to make certain things with lot of adjustments and compromises or scenarios and make it look like it is perfect in anything whether it is your career, whether it is your relationship whether it is your marriage, we want to believe that we can make it. But, I don't know if you ask even the ones who are living that life wouldn't they want something better or could've expected more, maybe yes.”
He had further added, “Human beings would still want (more) and you also have people who say I couldn't have asked for a better woman or a better wife, I am so happy. Yes, those scenarios also exist. But, perfection is something that is a constant thing you need to achieve. It is not that you have achieved it and it's gonna stay. It's everyday hard work...to continue to be where you have to be. So that happens in relationships also. I tried for 21 years but I couldn't succeed in one aspect but theek hai (that's okay). It's alright. Not many people even try that long.”
