Boney Kapoor had clearly stated that his upcoming film Maidaan, starring Ajay Devgn will stick to 70 mm for its release. After Akshay Kumar-Kiara Advani starrer Laxmmi Bomb, The Big Bull, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, reports of Maidaan having an OTT release too started doing the rounds on social media. But now the makers have announced the new release date of Maidaan. The film which celebrates the biggest sport in the world -Football, will hit the theatres next year.
A story of change and self-belief, Maidaan will release the next Independence Day week, August 13, 2021. Inspired from an incredible true story, it will showcase the journey of one of the finest coaches that emerged from India, the one who put India on the global map. Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta, screenplay and dialogues are written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah respectively. The film is set to release on August 13, 2021.
Earlier rubbishing the reports, Boney Kapoor had told Hindustan Times, “These are extraordinary times (due to Covid-19 pandemic) that none of us -- globally -- have witnessed before. Talking about movies, if a certain producer is ready with his/her film and can’t afford to wait (for theatres to reopen) then OTT platforms can be a big blessing for them as they can easily recover their investments.”
