One of the most renowned actors and directors in the Marathi as well as in the Bollywood industry, Mahesh Manjrekar has been getting extortion calls and messages from a person who claimed to be a member of Abu Salem's gang, as reported by PTI. The actor/director even lodged a complained to Mumbai Police, alleging that he has been receiving messages from an unidentified person, claiming to be a member of the gang of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts' case convict Abu Salem while also demanding a whopping Rs 35 crore. Soon, an offence was registered and was transferred to the police's Anti-Extortion Cell. Nevertheless, the latest reports suggest that the person who has been accused is in the police custody till September 2.
According to ANI, the Mumbai Police stated, a local court has sent a person who is accused of demanding extortion from the director and actor Mahesh Manjrekar, to police custody till September 2. The accused is 34-year-old and is a resident of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. Earlier, an official said to the portal, "As the case is sensitive and extortion bid is involved, the offence has been transferred to the Anti-Extortion Cell for investigation."
Meanwhile, Mahesh Manjrekar was last seen in Prabhas-Shraadha Kapoor starrer Saaho where he played one of the antagonists and Salman Khan-Sonakshi Sinha starrer Dabangg 3 where he essayed the role of Rajjo’s father. Both the films were released in 2019 and turned out to be an average at the box-office. His daughter Saiee Manjrekar also made her Bollywood debut with Dabangg 3.
