On Friday, Kunal Dasgupta (Ex-CEO of Sony) and his wife Lata received the bad news of Mahesh Anand's death. Mahesh, who was Lata's brother, was found dead in his Yari Road flat. Mahesh, who was 57, had worked in several films with top stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Govinda among many others. The post-mortem and visceral report is still awaited. Kunal and Lata are in deep grief.
It has been believed that Mahesh was rather depressed with life and had even hit the bottle. One of the reasons was that he was virtually out of work. While Pahlaj Nihalani did bring him back with a short role in Rangeela Raja starring Govinda, Mishika and Shakti Kapoor, it was surely not enough to brighten up his spirits sufficiently. Another reason is, Mahesh longed to meet his son Trishul, who has now changed his name to Anthony Vohra and stays with his mother Erika D'souza (Mahesh's second wife whom he married in 1992) and step-father in Dubai. Despite repeated efforts on FB, Trishul, err, Anthony, did not respond to his father.
For those who've come in late, Mahesh had married 5 times- Barkha Roy in 1987, Erika D'souza in 1989, Madhu Malhotra in 1992, Usha Bachani in 2000 and Laana in 2015. While Barkha refused to speak on her ex-husband's death, Usha said that she wished his soul rests in peace. Neither of the two were in touch with him after they ended their marriage.
When contacted, Dasgupta, without dwelling into the reasons and in fact extremely tight-lipped about them, simply said, "Yes, Mahesh was in a depression. We were always there to help him but he did not like to take much help. It was very sad the way his life was. Hope his soul is in better place now."
A source close to Mahesh confided in SpotboyE.com and said, "Mahesh was a typical case of professional and personal lives both having gone awry. Bollywood is a space where such things happen commonly, but then, everyone can't handle it."
